Banska Stiavnica, is located 170 km north of Bratislava, 48 km south of Banska Bystrica in the Nature Reserve Stiavnicke vrchy (hills). Mining town located on a slope of the Stiavnicke pohori mountains, established since 1075. The town experienced a huge upturn between the 16th and 18th centuries when gold was discovered and mined. Beautiful natural landscapes at a distance of only 10 km: Sitno Mountain (1009 m) being the highest mountain, other points of interest, Pocuvadlianske jazero, Richnavsk jazero, Sudenske jazero, Holcianske jazero (lakes). Numerous marked walking paths.
