Topography:
Cicmany is located 40 km south of Zilina. The picturesque village, known for itspretty wooden, hand painted houses, is situated in the mountains north of Slovakia. Dating from the 13th century, this village was constructed following the Turkish invasion of Slovakia. At this time, numerous families fled into the mountains and made homes there. To fulfill their needs, the men worked the earth and bred livestock whilst the women did embroidery. The motifs of these embroideries were soon used to decorate the front of the houses.
